Are Kindle Books automatically removed from my Kindle or Kindle reading app?

Once the lending period for a Kindle Book ends, it is automatically returned to your library. Expired Kindle Books still appear on your Kindle device or reading app but can't be opened. You can remove a Kindle Book from your Kindle device or reading app, or permanently delete it from your Kindle library.

To remove a Kindle Book from your Kindle device or reading app

Follow these steps to remove an expired Kindle Book from your Kindle device or reading app. The Kindle Book will still be listed on the "Your Books" page in your Amazon account for your records.

  1. On your Kindle device or in the Kindle app, go to your "Home" or "Library" screen.
  2. Find the title, then tap and hold the cover until a menu appears.
  3. Tap Remove from Library, then confirm.

To permanently delete a Kindle Book from your Amazon account

Follow these steps to permanently delete an expired Kindle Book from your Amazon account. The book will be removed from your Kindle device or reading app the next time you sync.

  1. On Amazon's website, go to the "Your Books" page and click or tap the cover image for the title.
  2. Select more.
  3. Select Permanently delete, then Permanently delete to confirm.
