How to download or remove your personal data from OverDrive's systems
With OverDrive's User Privacy Portal, you can request a copy of your personal data or ask that your personal data be removed from OverDrive's systems.
Note: If you want to turn off activity recording in Libby, disable your history in Sora, or disable your history on your library's OverDrive website, you can do that on your device instead.
Creating a request in the portal doesn't affect the status of your library card or affect data held by your library. If you requested we remove your data, you can still use your library card with OverDrive services when your request is complete, but some of your data may not be available.
To create a request in OverDrive's User Privacy Portal:
- Go to the User Privacy Portal.
- Search for your library by name, city, or postal code.
- Select your library from the list.
- If asked, select the sign-in method you use with that library's OverDrive services. If you selected a group of libraries in step three, you may also be prompted to select your library.
- Sign into your library. If you sign in using a mobile number, enter the verification code sent to your phone.
- Enter your email address, then select Continue. If you have an overdrive.com account and you'd also like to remove data associated with it, enter the email address you use for your OverDrive account here and check the box on the "Confirm request" page.
- A verification code will be sent to that email address. Enter the code, then select Continue.
- Select Delete my data or Retrieve my data. If you want to do both, select Retrieve my data. Once the retrieval is complete and you receive an email with your data, create a new request to delete your data.
- On the "Confirm request" page, complete the CAPTCHA. You can optionally check the box on this page to request that we also remove data associated with your email address. Then select Delete my data or Retrieve my data.
Note: If you check the box on this page, we may remove or retrieve data associated with other library accounts that use that email address. However, if you don't create separate requests for your other library accounts, your personal data associated with those accounts may not be removed or retrieved. To ensure we remove or retrieve data for all your library accounts, please submit a request for each account.
You will receive a confirmation email at the address you provided once your request is complete.
If you have trouble signing into your library account while creating your request, contacting your library is the best way to get help. If you get stuck and can't complete your request, contact our Support team through Libby or Sora, or ask your library for help.
Please note that OverDrive maintains a record of data removal requests and data necessary to demonstrate regulatory compliance.
