General troubleshooting for the OverDrive app

The OverDrive app has limited availability. If you can't use the OverDrive app, we encourage you to try our newer reading app, Libby. Get started with Libby on Android, iOS, Fire tablets, or in your browser.

If you're having trouble with the OverDrive app, try the following steps in order. Once your issue is resolved, there's no need to continue to the next step.

  1. Check your internet connection, and make sure you have a strong signal.
    • If you're using a public Wi-Fi (for example, at a coffeehouse or restaurant), make sure you're fully connected. Some public Wi-Fi networks ask you to accept terms or sign in before you can connect.
    • If you're using a VPN, disconnect from it and try again.
    • Try a different connection, like switching from Wi-Fi to cellular.
  2. Close the OverDrive app completely by swiping it from your recently used apps list.
  3. Restart your device.
    • Hold down the Power button until options appear.
    • Tap Power Off, then OK (if prompted) to turn off your device.
  4. Contact support for more help, and let them know you tried all the steps in this article.

If you're having trouble downloading a title, try manually starting the download:

  1. Tap the icon in the top-left corner to open the Home menu.
  2. Tap Files, and make sure the Downloads slider (at the top of the menu) is turned on.
  3. Tap the title that won't download.
  4. If any files are waiting to download, select Delete all.
  5. Tap Download all, or tap the individual parts you'd like to download, then Download.

Note: If you continue to have trouble with the OverDrive app, you may want to consider trying our newer app, Libby, to enjoy digital titles from your library. Your current OverDrive loans will be waiting for you in Libby when you sign in with your library card.
