OverDrive recently upgraded more of our services to HTTPS as part of our continued commitment to security and privacy. While this process was seamless and invisible to the vast majority of users, it resulted in compatibility issues for some older devices and software versions. We apologize for the inconvenience, and have provided solutions and alternatives below (wherever possible).

Sony Reader Wi-Fi

Sony Reader Wi-Fi devices (models PRS-T1, PRS-T2, and PRS-T3) no longer allow users to download library eBooks directly on the device.

Users can still download library eBooks to Sony Reader software on their computer, then transfer eBooks from their computer to their Sony Reader.

NOOK GlowLight Plus

Barnes & Noble has released a software update (version 46.2.13 / that fixes the issues users were having opening library eBooks on the NOOK GlowLight Plus. If your GlowLight Plus has not automatically updated to the latest software version, you can manually update it by going to Settings > Software > Check For System Update.

NOOK Color

Some NOOK Color users have had problems using their library's digital collection in the OverDrive app (which is no longer available for new users since the NOOK Apps store closed in March 2016).

As an alternative, we recommend that NOOK Color users download library eBooks to Adobe Digital Editions on their computer, then transfer eBooks from their computer to their NOOK Color.

Adobe Digital Editions (ADE)

Some users have had problems downloading library eBooks using Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) 2.0 or below. As a solution, we recommend using the latest version of ADE (currently version 4.5) if you have Windows 7 (or higher) or Mac OS X v10.8 (or higher). If you have an older computer, we recommend upgrading to the latest version of ADE supported by your operating system (you can access older versions of ADE here).

Some Windows XP users have continued to experience issues after upgrading ADE, so they may still have difficulty downloading library eBooks. Microsoft discontinued support for XP in 2014, and unfortunately there is no solution for these users at this time.

Note: Some Windows users with newer versions of ADE (4.5+) are experiencing issues with ADE crashing or freezing, which are unrelated to our recent security updates. Visit this article to learn more.
