You may notice that some titles have a "fixed layout" when you open them in your browser using OverDrive Read.

A fixed layout allows the publisher to design the digital pages of an eBook or magazine to look just like the print version, with every word and picture in the right place. This kind of formatting is essential to a lot of graphic-heavy titles, like magazines, textbooks, comic books, picture books, and more.

In fixed-layout titles, you won't be able to change the layout, font, or book design (this means you won't be able to turn on the OpenDyslexic book design for dyslexic users). Instead, you'll be able to zoom in on individual pages to make words and pictures larger:

  • Click or tap the Zoom icon along the top of the reader to enter zoom mode.
  • Use the plus or minus icons to adjust your zoom level.
  • Select Done to exit zoom mode.

If you're trying to download a fixed-layout eBook or magazine for offline reading, please note that the entire title may not save in your web browser because of its size. This means you'll only be able to download a portion of the title for offline reading.

Here's an example fixed-layout spread from the graphic novel Roller Girl.
