You may notice that some eBooks have a "fixed layout" when you open the OverDrive Read format in your web browser.
Fixed-layout eBooks allow the publisher to design the digital pages of an eBook so that they look just like the ones in the print version, with every word and picture in its proper place. This kind of formatting is essential to a lot of graphic-heavy books, like textbooks, comic books, picture books, and more.
In fixed-layout eBooks, you won't be able to change the eBook's layout, font, or book design (this means you won't be able to turn on the OpenDyslexic book design for dyslexic users). Instead, you'll be able to zoom in on individual pages to make words and pictures larger:
- Click or tap the Zoom icon along the top of the reader to enter zoom mode.
- Use the plus or minus icons to adjust your zoom level.
- Select Done to exit zoom mode when you're finished.
If you're trying to download a fixed-layout eBook for offline reading, please note that the entire book may not save in your web browser because of its size. This means you'll only be able to download a portion of the book for offline reading.
Here's an example fixed-layout spread from the graphic novel Roller Girl.
