If you're just getting started with OverDrive on your Android device, we recommend that you use our new Libby app, which makes it easier than ever to listen to audiobooks from your public library. Get started with Libby or learn more about it.

Not interested in or able to use Libby? For help listening to audiobooks with the original OverDrive app, choose the image below that looks like the titles in your library's collection.

You can use the OverDrive app to download and listen to borrowed audiobooks on your Android device.

Once you've borrowed and downloaded an audiobook in the app, tap the Home menu in the top-left corner of the app, go to your Bookshelf, and tap the audiobook to begin listening.

Note: If you'd rather listen to audiobooks in your device's web browser (without the OverDrive app), you can use OverDrive Listen instead.

How to use the audiobook player in the OverDrive app

You can borrow and listen to audiobooks in your device's web browser using OverDrive Listen, or download and listen to MP3 audiobooks in the OverDrive app.

Listening to audiobooks in your browser

To listen to an audiobook in your device's web browser, just tap the Listen (In your browser) button next to a borrowed audiobook on your Checkouts page.

Note: OverDrive Listen does not work in the stock Android browser, on older Kindle Fire tablets, or on NOOK HD+ and older tablets (even in Chrome).

Listening to audiobooks in the OverDrive app

In the OverDrive app, download an MP3 audiobook from your Checkouts page to the app Bookshelf.

Tap an audiobook to open it and start listening.
