This error typically occurs when you're trying to download an eBook from your library using the OverDrive app and the date or time is incorrect.

The full error may be like one of these:

  • Either the download file has expired or the date and/or time on your device is incorrect. Please check your date, time, and time zone settings. All three must be accurate. (date/time error) (Error code 1069)
  • Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E_ADEPT_CORE_EXPIRED
  • Error message ASC4 license adobe request. Error 2004 1301168980000 is before 2011-3-26T-12-31-0700.
  • Adobe Activation Request Error: 2004 Adobe request error: E_ADEPT_REQUEST EXPIRED-2011-07-24T14:46:17=07:00(1311543977000) is before 2011-07-25T14:16;06-07;00 (1311628566827)
  • ACSM file has expired

To fix the error, make sure the date, time, and time zone settings for your device are correct.

Note: Make sure you've updated the OverDrive app to the latest version before trying the steps below.

Android devices

  1. Go to Settings, then select Date & time (under "System").
  2. Enable the Automatic setting.
    If the Automatic setting isn't working for you, set the date and time manually.
  3. Make sure that the time zone is correct.
  4. Power your device off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on and try downloading the title again.

iOS devices

  1. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time
  2. Turn Set Automatically on, and make sure your time zone is correct.
  3. Delete app cookies:
    • Open the OverDrive app.
    • Tap the icon in the top-left corner to open the Home menu.
    • Tap Settings.
    • Tap Delete app cookies.
  4. Power your device off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on and try downloading the title again.

Windows 8 devices

  1. In Desktop mode, click or tap the clock in the lower-right corner.
  2. Select Change date and time settings...
  3. If the displayed date and time are incorrect, select Change date and time... in the "Date and Time" window and fix them.
    You can also try clicking the Internet Time tab, selecting Change Settings, then Update now.
  4. Once the date and time are correct, restart your device, then try downloading the title again.

Windows 10 devices

  1. Tap or click the settings icon (from the Start menu).
  2. Select Time & language.
  3. If the displayed date and time are incorrect, toggle off Set time automatically.
  4. Under "Change date and time," select Change.
  5. In the pop-up that appears, fix the date and time, then click or tap Change to save them.
  6. If the displayed time zone is incorrect, toggle off Set time zone automatically and select the correct time zone from the drop-down menu.
  7. Once the date and time are correct, restart your device, then try downloading the title again.
