The new Libby app is the easiest way to get started with digital titles from your public library on an iOS device.
Note: Do you belong to a school or non-public library? Use the OverDrive app steps at the bottom of this article instead.
Step 1
Install the Libby app from the Apple App Store.
Step 2
Open Libby and find your library. You can search by library name, city, or zip code.
Step 3
Browse your library's collection and borrow a title. When prompted, sign in. You'll need a valid library card to complete this step.
Step 4
Borrowed titles appear on your Shelf and download to the app automatically so you can read them when you're offline.
From your Shelf, you can:
- Tap Start Reading or Start Listening to open a title.
- Tap the cover image, then Send to Device to send a book to Kindle.

Is Libby not right for you? Get started with the original OverDrive app instead.
If you want to borrow digital content from somewhere other than a public library (like a school), or if you want features that the Libby app does not yet offer (like accessibility or a multilingual interface), you can use the original OverDrive app to get digital titles on your iOS device instead.
Step 1
Download the OverDrive app from the Apple App Store.
Step 2
Open the OverDrive app and follow the prompts to sign in (or sign up) using your library card, Facebook, or a free OverDrive account. Learn which sign-in option is right for you here.
If you're under 13, you can use one of the under-13 sign-in options.
Step 3
In the OverDrive app, swipe from left to right to open the Home menu. Then, tap Add a library to find your library's digital collection.
- Tap the star to save your library to your library list.
- Tap your library's name to start browsing.
Now, choose the image below that looks like the titles in your library's collection.
Step 4
Borrow a title (you'll need to sign into your library's digital collection to complete this step).
Step 5
Once you've borrowed a title, tap 
to go to your Loans page and see your options for the title. From there, you can:
- Tap Download, then tap:
- EPUB eBook to download EPUB eBooks to the app Bookshelf.
- Kindle Book (U.S. only) to complete checkout on Amazon's website and send the book to your Kindle device or Kindle reading app.
- Tap Download to download MP3 audiobooks to the app Bookshelf.
- Tap Add to app to add streaming videos to the app Bookshelf.
- Tap Read in browser to open read-alongs or MediaDo Reader eBooks right in your web browser.
Note: Magazines and newspapers work a little differently than other digital titles. See getting started with periodicals for more help.

Step 4
Sign into your library's digital collection with your library card and borrow a title.
Note: Magazines and newspapers work a little differently than other digital titles. They have a Send to NOOK app button instead of a Borrow button, and to read them, you'll need to install the NOOK reading app from the Apple App Store. See getting started with periodicals for more help.
Step 5
Find borrowed titles on your Checkouts page (under your Account) in your library's digital collection. From here, you can:
- Download/Add EPUB eBooks and MP3 audiobooks directly to the OverDrive app.
- Add streaming videos to the OverDrive app.
- Tap Read to open and read OverDrive Read or MediaDo Reader eBooks right in your browser.
- Tap Listen to open and play OverDrive Listen audiobooks right in your browser.
- If you've installed the Kindle reading app from the Apple App Store, select Download, then Kindle Book (U.S. only) to complete checkout on Amazon's website and send the book to your Kindle reading app.
