Which sign-in option in the OverDrive app is best for me?
When you first install and open the OverDrive app, you'll see several options for signing in.
Signing into the app authorizes it for downloading and reading Adobe (DRM-protected) ebooks. Once you sign in, you can enjoy ebooks, audiobooks, and more from your libraries.
To download ebooks on multiple devices, sign in to the OverDrive app the same way on each device.
The OverDrive account option
The OverDrive account option allows you to sign into the OverDrive app on multiple devices and authorize Adobe Digital Editions on a computer.
To sign into the OverDrive app with an OverDrive account:
- Open the app, and select Sign up or Sign in.
- Enter your name (if prompted), email address, and password.
- Select Sign up or Sign in.
The library card option
Note: The library card sign-in option is supported for most libraries, but not all.
The library card option also allows you to sign into the OverDrive app on multiple devices, but you can't use it to authorize Adobe Digital Editions. This sign-in option doesn't require an email address, which makes it a great choice for users under 13.
To sign into the OverDrive app with a library card:
- Open the app, and select Sign up or Sign in.
- Select Sign up using library card or Sign in using library card.
- Search for your library by name or location.
- Select your library from the results.
Note: If library card sign-in is not supported for your library, you'll see an error message when you select your library. In this case, you'll need to use another sign-in option. - Enter your library card information, then click Sign in. Some libraries require a card number, username, and/or PIN.
The under-13 or school option
The under-13 sign-in option is only recommended for users under the age of 13 who can't sign in using their library card.
Here are the limitations of the under-13 sign-in option:
- This option allows you to sign into the OverDrive app on only one device, so you can't download ebooks on multiple devices.
- If you need to reinstall the app, you won't be able to re-download currently downloaded ebooks (unless you check them out again).
This option allows users under 13 to use the OverDrive app without submitting personal information, in full compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Policy Act (COPPA).
