OverDrive offers a dyslexic font option that is designed to make text easier to read for dyslexic users. You can enable or disable this option using the steps below.

On library websites

  1. On your library's OverDrive website, click or tap books icon, then select Settings.
    You'll need to be signed into the site to get to this page.
  2. Under "Display options," select Dyslexic font. Your setting is saved automatically.

In the OverDrive app

The dyslexic font option is available in the OverDrive app (v3.3 or higher) for Android, Chromebook, iOS, and Windows 8.

Android/Chromebook steps

  1. Open a downloaded eBook from your app bookshelf.
  2. Tap or click the center of the screen in the eBook reader.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Font style.
  5. Select OpenDyslexic or OpenDyslexic Bold.

iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch) steps

  1. Open a downloaded eBook from your app bookshelf.
  2. Tap the center of the screen in the eBook reader.
  3. Tap Font settings icon.
  4. Select OpenDyslexic or OpenDyslexic Bold under "Font style."

Windows 8 (and up) steps

  1. Open a downloaded eBook from your app bookshelf.
  2. Tap or click the center of the screen in the eBook reader.
  3. Select the Settings button from the bottom of the screen.
  4. Select the Font drop-down menu.
  5. Select Open Dyslexic or Open Dyslexic Bold.

In OverDrive Read

  1. Open an eBook in your browser using OverDrive Read.
  2. Open the OverDrive Read menu.

    (On a mobile device, tap the middle of the screen to bring up the menu icon.)
  3. Select Reading Settings.
  4. Select OpenDyslexic under "Book Design."

    Note: At any time, you can enable either the high contrast option or the dyslexic font option (but not both) for your library's OverDrive website.
