If your library offers streaming videos, you can borrow and watch free shows, movies, and more. Videos will play either in the OverDrive app (v3.1+ for Android or iOS) or in your web browser.

To get started, borrow a streaming video from your library's digital collection. Then, on your Loans page (under books icon):

  • Select Watch in browser to open the video in a new tab in your web browser. You'll see this button if you're using a desktop web browser, like Chrome or Safari, or OverDrive for Windows 8/10.
  • Tap Add to app to add the video to your Bookshelf in the OverDrive app. You'll see this button if you're using an Android or iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch) device.

You'll need an internet connection when watching a streaming video (even after you add it to the OverDrive app). Streaming videos can consume a lot of data, so we recommend streaming over a Wi-Fi connection.

What devices and browsers work best

Streaming videos work on computers and Windows 8 and 10 devices as long as you have Adobe Flash Player and you're using an up-to-date web browser, like one of these:

If you're using an Android or iOS device, you'll need the OverDrive app (v3.1 or newer) to watch most streaming videos.

Note: You may not be able to play all streaming videos (like those from Starz) on a Kindle Fire, Fire HD, and Android 7.X devices, even using the OverDrive app.

Video permissions are set by the publisher and may restrict how you can watch a video. To see a video's permissions, go to its details page, then select Details.
