Sometimes minor communication issues or Adobe server outages can cause errors (like a "List Change" error) when you try to open a book in Adobe Digital Editions (ADE). If you're running into these errors, please try the following steps to resolve the problem:

  1. Open ADE, then delete the title that's causing the error when you try to open it. Close ADE.
  2. Delete any copies of the title from your computer.
    • Windows: Run a search from the start menu. In Vista, 7, 8, and 10, just open the Start menu and start typing.
      • Search for *.acsm, and delete any files named after the book you borrowed.
      • Search for *.epub, and do the same thing.
      • Open the Recycle Bin, right-click on the title, and select Delete.
    • Mac: Open Finder, then Go > Documents > Digital Editions. If the title's there, delete it. Once the title is in the trash, open the trash and delete the title from there as well.
Note: If you aren't worried about losing the files already in your trash, you can empty it rather than finding titles individually and deleting them.
  3. Open your web browser and clear your temporary internet files.
  4. Delete the contents of both the tasks and failed folders found here: [My] Documents > [My] Digital Editions > restore.
  5. Try downloading the title again.
