If you have an iOS device (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch), you can use OverDrive for iOS to download, return, and delete titles directly on your device.

However, if you've transferred audiobooks to your Apple device using OverDrive for Windows or Mac, you can delete them manually from your device using iTunes.

Note: Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed before trying these steps.

Deleting titles with "Manually manage music" enabled

  1. Open iTunes, then connect your device to your computer.
  2. Select the Device button near the top-left corner of iTunes.

  3. Under the "Summary" tab, ensure that Manually manage music and videos is selected. If it's not, skip to the second set of instructions in this article to delete the audiobook from iTunes and sync your device to your iTunes library.iTunes window with Manually manage music and videos selected.   4. In the left-hand pane under "On My Device," select My Music. Or, if you keep audiobooks in a different category, navigate there instead (they're kept in "My Music" by default).
    Right-click (or control-click on a Mac) the MP3 title(s) you want to delete, then select Delete.

  5. Once you're done deleting titles, click the eject button next to your device's name so you can safely unplug it.

If you keep your device synced to your iTunes library

If you don't have "Manually manage music and videos" enabled and you'd like to keep your entire iTunes library synced to your Apple device, follow the steps below to delete an audiobook and sync your device:

  1. Open iTunes, then connect your device to your computer.
  2. Select My Music, or if you keep audiobooks in a different category, navigate there instead (they're kept in "My Music" by default).

  3. Right-click (or control-click on a Mac) the audiobook you'd like to remove from your iTunes library, then select Delete.

  4. Select the Device button near the top-left corner of iTunes.

  5. In the left-hand pane, go to Settings > Music (or wherever you keep audiobooks). Ensure that Sync Music (or Sync Audiobooks) is selected.

  6. Click Sync. The audiobook should be removed from your device.
  7. Once you're done, click the eject button next to your device's name so you can safely unplug it.
