When you transfer titles to an eReader, like a NOOK or Kobo, make sure it's connected to your computer before you open Adobe Digital Editions (ADE). When an eReader is recognized by ADE, you'll see it under "Devices." If it's not recognized by ADE, follow the steps below.

Some important notes about devices:

If you don't see your eReader in ADE (Windows and Mac)

Note: These instructions are for ADE 2.0 or newer. We recommend always using the latest version of ADE.

  1. Close ADE and unplug your eReader.
  2. Reconnect your eReader and wait a few moments.
  3. Open ADE (in "Library View").
The Library button is in the top-left corner of the ADE window when an eBook is open.

  4. Your eReader should show up under "Devices" on the left side of the screen.

If you still can't see your eReader in ADE on Windows

The next step is to make sure that ADE is properly authorized on both your computer and your device.

  1. In ADE, go to Help > Authorization Information.
If this option is grayed out, authorize your computer.
Authorization Information in the ADE Help menu. See instructions above.
If this option is not grayed out, the authorization window opens and shows you what ID you're currently using on your computer (either an OverDrive account or an Adobe ID).

  2. Now that you've verified that your computer is authorized, you'll need to reset the ADE folder on your eReader.
    • Close ADE.
    • Connect your eReader to your computer.
    • Open File Explorer. Double-click your eReader under "[My] Computer" (or "This PC").
    • Locate the folder .adobe-digital-editions and delete it.
  3. Open ADE. Drag the eBook you'd like to transfer up to your device.
ADE will automatically register your eReader with the same ID that you're using on your computer.

If these steps do not correct the issue, please try a factory reset of your device. You can typically find those instructions on the manufacturer's help website.
