You can use the OverDrive app for Windows 8 to get eBooks, audiobooks, streaming videos, and periodicals from your library on your Windows 8, RT, or 10 device.

The steps below will help you get started with the OverDrive app for Windows 8. With Windows 8 and 10 (not RT), you can also install OverDrive's desktop app, which allows you to burn and transfer audiobooks.

Note: Some digital formats may not be available from all libraries.

Step 1

Install the OverDrive app from the Windows Store.

Step 2

Open the OverDrive app and follow the prompts to sign in (or sign up) using your library card, Facebook, or a free OverDrive account. Learn which sign-in option is right for you here.

If you're under 13, you can use one of the under-13 sign-in options.

Step 3

In the OverDrive app, select the Add a library button, then follow the prompts.

Once you find your library, click or tap its digital collection to save it to your "My libraries" list and start browsing.

Now, choose the image below that looks like the titles on your library's website.

Step 4

Borrow a title (you'll need to sign into your library's OverDrive website to complete this step).

Step 5

Once you've borrowed a title, select Add to app (if shown), or select books icon to go to your Loans page and see all of your options for the title. From there, you can:

Note: Magazines and newspapers work a little differently than other digital titles. See getting started with periodicals for more help.

Step 4

Sign into your library's OverDrive website with your library card and borrow a title.

Note: Magazines and newspapers work a little differently than other digital titles. They have a Send to NOOK app button instead of a Borrow button, and to read them, you'll need to install the NOOK reading app from the Windows Store. See getting started with periodicals for more help.

Step 5

Find borrowed titles on your Checkouts page (under your Account) on your library's OverDrive website. From here, you can:
