You can use the OverDrive app for Windows 8 to get eBooks, audiobooks, streaming videos, and periodicals from your library on your Windows 8, RT, or 10 device.

The steps below will help you get started with the OverDrive app for Windows 8. With Windows 8 and 10 (not RT), you can also install OverDrive's desktop app, which allows you to burn and transfer audiobooks.

Note: Some digital formats may not be available from all libraries.

Step 1

Install the OverDrive app from the Windows Store.

Step 2

Open the OverDrive app and follow the prompts to create an OverDrive account and sign in.

If you're under 13, you may have multiple sign-in options. Learn which under-13 option is right for you here.

Step 3

In the OverDrive app, select the Add a library button, then follow the prompts.

Once you find your library, click or tap its digital collection to save it to your "My libraries" list and start browsing.

Step 4

Sign into your library's OverDrive website with your OverDrive account. Then, follow the one-time prompts to save your library card to your account.

If you're under 13, select Sign in using library card instead.

Step 5

Borrow a title. Tap Add to app (if shown), or go to your Checkouts page (under My account) to see all of your options for the title. From there, you can:

Note: Magazines and newspapers work a little differently than other digital titles. They have a Send to NOOK app button instead of a Borrow button, and to read them, you'll need to install the NOOK reading app from the Windows Store. See getting started with periodicals for more help.
