If you have an iPod touch, please see getting started with an iOS device (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch). For all other iPods, the guide below will help you get started.

What you need

  • An iPod cable to plug into your computer
  • OverDrive for Windows or Mac
  • A library card

How it works

  1. Install software
Install OverDrive's desktop app on your computer. You'll need it to download audio titles and transfer them to your iPod.
Note: If you want to transfer WMA titles to an iPod, you'll need a Windows computer. Even then, not all WMA titles can be transferred to an iPod due to publisher permissions.
  2. Borrow and download titles on your computer
Open your library's digital collection website (find it here) on your computer and then borrow and download an audio title.
  3. Transfer titles to your iPod
Follow our instructions to transfer MP3 or permitted WMA titles from a Windows computer to an iPod, or to transfer MP3 titles from a Mac to an iPod.
Once you've transferred a title to your iPod, you can listen to it just like any other audio file. WMA titles will be listed with your playlists, and MP3 titles can be found under "Music."
