You can use the OverDrive app to borrow and enjoy eBooks, audiobooks, and streaming video from your library on your Kindle Fire, Fire HD, or Fire HDX.

Note: Kindle Books are currently available for U.S. libraries only. However, users from any country can still follow the steps below to install the OverDrive app and access OverDrive's other digital formats (including eBooks, audiobooks, videos, and periodicals). Some digital formats may not be available from all libraries or in earlier versions of Fire OS.

Step 1

Download the OverDrive app from one of the following:

Open the OverDrive app and follow the prompts to create an OverDrive account and log in.

If you're under 13, you may have multiple sign-in options. Learn which under-13 option is right for you here.

Note: If you're using a first generation Kindle Fire, skip this step and move on to step 3.

Step 3

In the OverDrive app, find your library's OverDrive website. On most Kindle Fires, you can do this by tapping the icon in the top-left corner to open the Home menu, tapping Manage libraries, and then +. On first generation Kindle Fires, tap the Add a library icon (or, if you don't have this icon, go to Menu > Get Books).

  • Tap the star to save your library to your library list.
  • Tap your library's name to start browsing.

Step 4

Sign into your library's OverDrive website with your OverDrive account. Then, follow the one-time prompts to save your library card to your account.

If you're under 13, select Sign in using library card instead.

Step 5

Borrow a title. Select Add to app (if shown), or go to your Checkouts page (under Menu > My account) to see all of your options for the title. From there, you can:
