If the OverDrive app is not working properly (titles are not loading properly, the app crashes, etc.), here are some troubleshooting options that should help.

Troubleshooting OverDrive for iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch)

Please try these steps in order. Once your issue is resolved, there's no need to continue on to the next step.

  1. Close the OverDrive app along with any other unnecessary apps.
    • Double-click the Home button to open your "recents list."
    • Swipe up on the OverDrive app to close it. Or, if you're not using iOS 7 or newer, tap and hold the OverDrive icon until it begins to shake. Tap the red minus sign to close it.
    • Close any other unneeded apps the same way.
    • Press the Home button again to exit your "recents list."
    • Open the OverDrive app and see if your issue is resolved. If not, please continue to step 2..
  2. Restart your device.
    • Hold down the Power button until the red "slide to power off" slider appears.
    • Power your device off.
    • Hold down the Power button until your screen lights up.
    • Open the OverDrive app and see if your issue is resolved. If not, please continue to step 3.
  3. Reauthorize your device.
    • Tap Settings from the Home menu. If you're using the legacy version of our app, you'll find "Settings" under Get Books+.
    • Tap Deauthorize.
    • Tap Authorize, then use your OverDrive account or Adobe ID.
    • Open the OverDrive app and see if your issue is resolved. If not, please continue to step 4.
  4. Uninstall then reinstall the OverDrive app.
    Note: If you're using a 1st generation iPhone or iPod touch, please back up the OverDrive app to iTunes before uninstalling. The OverDrive app is no longer available for your device from the App Store.
    Uninstalling the app will clear your bookshelf, history, and app settings. You can save the list of titles in your history by going to Home Menu > History > Edit. Tap Select All, then Share. From there, you can email the list wherever you like.
    • Tap and hold the OverDrive icon until it begins to shake.
    • Tap the "X" on the icon.
    • Tap Delete to remove the app.
    • Tap the Home button to return to your home screen.
    • Install the OverDrive app from the App Store.
    • Log into your OverDrive account (or reauthorize your device in older versions of the app) and see if your issue is resolved.

Troubleshooting OverDrive for Android

Please try these steps in order. Once your issue is resolved, there's no need to continue on to the next step.

  1. Make sure the OverDrive app is closed.
    • Open your recently used apps list and swipe the OverDrive app to close it.
      Or, go to Settings > Applications > Manage applications (on older versions of Android).
      • Find the OverDrive app in the list then tap it.
      • Tap Force stop if it's available.
    • Open the OverDrive app and see if your issue is resolved. If not, please continue to step 2.
  2. Restart your device.
    • Hold down the Power button until a menu of options appears.
    • Tap Power Off then OK to turn off your device.
    • Hold down the Power button until your screen lights up to turn it back on.
    • Open the OverDrive app and see if your issue is resolved. If not, please continue to step 3.
  3. Uninstall then reinstall the OverDrive app.
    This will clear your bookshelf, history, and app settings. You can save the list of titles in your history by going to Home Menu > History, then tap Share All. From there, you can send the list wherever you like.
    • Go to Settings > Applications > Manage applications.
    • Find the OverDrive app in the list then tap it.
    • Tap Uninstall then OK.
    • Install OverDrive for Android.
    • Log into your OverDrive account (or reauthorize your device in older versions of the app) and see if your issue is resolved.

Troubleshooting OverDrive for Windows Phone

Restart your device.

  • Power your phone off by holding down the Power button until "Goodbye" appears.
  • Hold down the Power button until your screen lights up.
  • Open the OverDrive app and see if your issue is resolved.

Troubleshooting OverDrive for Windows 8

Please try these next steps in order. Once your issue is resolved, there's no need to continue on to the next step.

  1. Make sure the OverDrive app is closed.
    • Fully close the OverDrive app by swiping down from the top bezel and dragging the app down to the bottom of the screen.
    • Open the OverDrive app and see if your issue is resolved. If not, please continue to step 2.
  2. Restart your device.
    • Open your charms bar (swipe away from the right edge of the screen, or press Windows key + C).
    • Select Settings, then Power. Select Shut Down.
    • Wait for at least 10 seconds after your device shuts down, then turn it back on.
    • Open the OverDrive app and see if your issue is resolved. If not, continue to step 3.
  3. Uninstall the OverDrive app.
  4. Install the OverDrive app from the Windows Store, sign in with your OverDrive account, and see if your issue is resolved.

Troubleshooting OverDrive Read eBooks on a mobile device

Please try these steps in order. Once your issue is resolved, there's no need to continue on to the next step.

  1. If you're trying to load a title using our app, please try closing it and using your device's browser instead.
  2. If you're trying to load a title using your device's mobile browser, please try closing it and use the browser in the OverDrive app instead.
  3. If you're still having trouble, please restart your device and try again.
