How to borrow audiobooks and eBooks using an iOS device (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch)

Because we are in the process of updating all digital library websites, this article has two sets of instructions (learn more).

With OverDrive's mobile app, you can read OverDrive Read eBooks as well as download MP3 audiobooks and EPUB eBooks directly to your iOS device. The Get Books feature offers quick access to your library's digital collection website.

Note: We recommend iOS v5.0 or newer for OverDrive Read.

What you need

• An iOS device with Internet access

• OverDrive Media Console for iOS

How to borrow titles on your iOS device

1. Open OverDrive Media Console (OMC) for iOS.

2. Tap Get Books + near the top-right corner of the app to open your library list.

3. If your list is empty, or you need to add a new library, tap Add a Library.
   Tap a library on your list to go to your library's website.
   
   

4. When your library website opens, find a title to borrow by tapping one from the home page or running a search.

5. Tap a title, then tap Borrow to check it out.
   
   

6. Your library website bookshelf opens, displaying title(s) you have checked out. From here, you can tap Read to start reading eBooks in your browser.
   
   

7. Or, select a format from the Download drop-down menu, then tap Confirm & Download.

   • Select an eBook or audiobook format to download and open the title in OverDrive Media Console.

   • Select Kindle Book (U.S. libraries only) to complete checkout on Amazon's website and send the title to your Kindle or Kindle reading app.
     
     Note: Download time depends on the size of the book and your connection speed. Apple requires a Wi-Fi connection to download files over 50 MB on iOS devices.

With OverDrive's mobile app, you can download MP3 audiobooks and EPUB eBooks from your library using your iOS device (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch). The app's 'Get Books' feature offers quick access to your library's digital collection.

You can also transfer audiobooks from your computer to an iOS device using OMC for Windows or a Mac.

How to download to your iOS device

1. Open OverDrive Media Console (OMC) on your iOS device.

2. Tap Get Books+ to open your library list.
   
   

3. Tap a library on your list to open the library's mobile site.
   If your list is empty, or you need to add a new library, tap Add a Library.

4. When the mobile site opens, find a title to borrow.

   • Tap a title

   • Tap more…

   • Run a search
     
     
     
     Note: Your library's mobile site may look slightly different than the one used in our examples, but the steps are the same.

5. When you have found a title, add it to your cart.
   
   

6. Tap Proceed to Checkout.
   If prompted, sign in.
   
   

7. Tap Confirm check out.
   
   

8. Tap Download.
   If this is your first time downloading an eBook, you may need to authorize OverDrive's mobile app for iOS using an Adobe ID.
   
   
   
   OMC automatically loads the book onto your shelf. While it downloads, you can keep browsing.

9. Downloaded titles can be found on your OMC bookshelf. From there, tap a title to open it and begin reading or listening.
