An eBook is a digital book that can be downloaded and read on a computer or mobile device. EPUB and PDF are two similar eBook formats that differ in presentation and compatibility.
A PDF eBook features a static layout with set page breaks. The PDF format works well for graphic novels, illustrated eBooks, and other titles with specific formatting. A PDF eBook can be downloaded on a computer using Adobe Digital Editions. While a user cannot change the text size, there are options to zoom in on a page.
An EPUB eBook features reflowable text, which means the text can be resized or the size of the display can be changed, and the text/images of the EPUB eBook will reflow to fill the available space. This makes EPUB eBooks the best choice for reading on small screens, like an eBook reader. An EPUB eBook can be downloaded on a computer using Adobe Digital Editions or on a mobile device with OverDrive Media Console. With EPUB eBooks a user may resize the text to create an instant large print eBook.
